Lat Pull Down with My Twist

I had a great weekend and enjoyed my extra hour of SLEEP!

My workouts felt great, and I also ate much better then usual. (no processed foods)

I went to a restaurant near my work for lunch on Saturday its called Viviano's and they were having a 7 year anniversary party.

Samples were cheese, wine and pasta.

I tried the squash ravioli pasta in olive oil. OMG they are going to carry this on the menu starting tomorrow. D-lish! I had just a salad with some meats, salami, and ham and fresh olive oil and pepper.

I did get 2 recipes, one for a roll up the other for celery with cranberry and cream cheese. (try to post later I forgot to bring them to work)

Here are my workouts, and our weather was very motivating!!!

Looking for great core and multi workout? Try this move I invented (I love to create new moves from machines) at the gym:

If you have a cable lat pull down machine pull in your core and lay flat (with both cables in your hands). Don't go too heavy here, 20-40lb only if you have a strong back.
Lay back flat, and bring one cable back to a lay down row squeezing all the way back towards the floor, holding the other mid way at bent elbow position.

This gives you an isometric hold, while working the other arm in a row and doing a pilates core move like on a reformer...sweet!

Try doing 10-15 per side, let me know if you love this move.

Weekend Kettlebell Workouts

(NOT ME)

I got in some great workouts and had some cake on Sunday other then that I think I did pretty good with my food choices. Considering I had a dinner out and a pot luck I could have went food CRAZY on.

Shred it with weights my only warning here is that you must be mindful of your form not to hit yourself. Plus hold in your abs to support your back during the swings. As with any kettlebells swings you need to be aware of form and core.

I really feel this today in my shoulders as I am using a 12lb kettlebell but it is the right weight for me. My back is a bit sore, but it was already bothering me from running again.

Age.

Today's plan is a run at lunch 2-3 miles with a few inclines. I skipped out on P90X core do to my back and all the swings I did, no way could I do it but will be back at Cardio X Tuesday.

This is a GREAT Kettlebell site I can recommend in case anyone is interested in this type of training

P90X Week 5 Plus Weekend Results

Ok, I got a bit messed up on my rotation over the weekend on my P90X.

My legs were so spent that I could NOT do a workout on Saturday so I switched that to my off day.

I still feel the same, so my results are not appearing yet but I am staying faithful to the plan. I am staying at 120-121lb range which I don't expect to change.

Feeling bad that my body fat is rising but I am certain that too is going to kick in. That's the thing about the body, it does nothing then BAM everything kicks in and results happen.

Kinda like planting a seed, you water and water and nothing then one day you wake up and there is a big sprout. STAY THE COURSE AND BE CONSISTENT AND IT WILL HAPPEN. (ask anyone that has ever competed the can confirm this)

So this week starts wtih Kenpo and tomorrow will be Yoga that I missed last week instead of stretch/rest. All good and back on track, sometimes you have to listen to your body and rest and rebuild.

One thing at the gym I was proud of, I did my clean and press with 30lb barbell that's up 10lbs!

Even though I am not seeing the change I am getting stronger, lets hope the leaner kicks in soon.

30 Year High School Reunion

Tigers Class of 1980 Rules!

This weekend is my 30 year high school reunion and I am super duper excited to see everyone. But I can't believe how fast time has gone, I mean am I really that OLD? I sure don't think of myself old but I remember when I was a little girl I thought my mom looked old at 40 sheesh what was I thinking?

Many of our classmates still live in our home town area, but its funny because I never run into them around town! I keep in contact with about 4 really tight, and about another 20 on face book.

My girlfriend Diane and I are going together, STAG. (Hello, girls night out!)

We are getting all dialed up in black for the event. I will be wearing of course a backless halter, and she will be wearing a little black dress with a T strap back. HAWT! You should see the shoes she is wearing OMG and I am just wearing some old ones I have saving the money, hoping no one will notice at all.

Last night I decided to do a dance-a-thon!

I worked up a huge calorie burn, sweating like crazy till I just couldn't dance no more. Everything from cardio dance to contemporary and lots of shadow dancing too. Yes, T. can entertain herself lol.......

Today's workout was just a 10 minute stretch. LAME huh? (ACTUALLY I was running around looking for my Zumba music, its lost :-( so sad)
Friday Stats:
Wt - 121.5
BF% 24.1
BMI 20.8

Since Saturday will be a full schedule, I decided to skip Yoga X this morning and just relax SWEET!

I did not meet my HAWT body goal, but I am fine with that I am still moving forward and doing the P90X program till completion.

Saturdays plan is:
7.30-8.30 at the gym - Legs and Cardio
8.45- 9am - Rinse off, go to the bank, have breakfast
9.45 - 11am - Yoga to go 1 hour class
11 am - Shower and exfoliate have mid morning snack
11.30am - Go for a spray tan
1-2pm Power nap - lunch
3-5pm Give myself a cotton candy french mani and pedi
5pm After lunch snack
5.30pm Start getting dialed up

Sunday if the weather is nice, after church I want to head to the river and just relax.

Awesome August Weekend Workouts

Awesome August is going to be working on my glutes!

Over the weekend, I cranked out some fierce workouts hoping to get glutes like this HAWT! (btw these are not my glutes) I have to keep building mine with the added weights, and my single leg squats but it will happen because I am on a mission.

I also got my hair done for this weekends 30 year high school reunion and I hate it. (I know hate is a strong word) I tried to fix it myself and its a disaster, so I am going to go back after work this week and get it corrected.

I wanted some "face framing highlights" in a light blond and then carmel and brown for the rest of my hair.

What I got was a lovely yellow-orange color. *sigh. I called my sister in Oklahoma who is a hairdresser and she walked me through a "toning" process. Bad T. I called after it was on my head, ALL over my head. She said, jump in the shower and rinse that out....then call me back. I did and it looks much more toned down like dark carmel/gold streaks but ANY gold on me looks B-A-D!

Sunday I tried to help my girl freind out with her relationship, but it looks like its going down like the titanic. *sigh I am such a romantic person, I just love, love, and all people in love as we just don't see enough of it.

I had a good workout weekend. I did a run on Saturday which was the first one in a long time, the fresh air was wonderful but HOT. I ran 2.5 miles in a 10.57 minute mile. I used to run all the time, now not so much because its kinda addicting especially if your stressed. But I tend to get too skinny and not in a good way, first thing to go is my glutes....last my belly. Go figure.

Sunday I did legs at the gym, and today I am so super duper sore! (In a good way) Today is my rest and recovery day thank goodness, but I did 15 minutes of yoga pilates stretch. I did pretty good with diet, but did have some sugar. 1 ice cream, and a slice of cheesecake with cherries, I don't know what it is about summer I just love ice cream.

I stocked up on cantalope and watermelon and got some strawberries and peaches, this week crunch week needs to be super C-L-E-A-N. (Clingy black backless dress need I say more?)

3 Doctors 1 Day

This is my ear doctor Dr. James Benecke, one of the best in St. Louis love him!

Yesterday I went to the doctor, or I should say 3 of them.

Since I had to go back for my post op ear appointment I decided to use that day off to take care of other annual appointments too.

Sadly I did not bring my camera.

First I went for my mammogram, at Midwest Breast Care I love this place. Everyone is so caring and they have these cool coffees you can make plus warm gowns. How great is that?

I learned a lot of things, besides being very good taken care of. I always ask questions so that I can view the pics on the screen and know that things are ok. They are NOT allowed to read them but I know they can tell when something is wrong.

I found out, that implants under the tissue/muscle are much easier to read/see whats going on. Also that even if your more muscular it is harder to read because it makes the tissue dense. Like a tree in the winter you see the birds but a tree in the summer is much harder to see them.

But there are women that are muscular that have fatty breast due to babies so they sag under the muscle and they are easy to read. My breast are small and very muscular and since I have had no babies they are firm and dense. This makes it harder to read, but not impossible.

No matter what she told me there has never been a case of finding something on a women with implants that has NOT shown up on a mammogram so that is good news for those women that have them. Yay!

Next up the eye doctor. My mom had glaucoma so I get tested every year, in this case I missed both appointments last year. He started doing another test where they take a picture of the eye. It was so cool, hence missing my camera for this blog. He showed me how the cone of the retina and the veins can show if someone has pressure and how that effects the site or detects glaucoma. This was NOT covered under insurance however I paid the $18 to have it done just to be safe.

At 48 the conclusion was I need reading glasses if I want them. One eye compensates for the other. Right eye near sided, Left far sited. So I have a script and I may get that filled. Good news, no glaucoma. Yay!

Then it was off to the ear doctor, where I got out my stitches and had my ear sucked out (sorry that's the only way I can say it) and tested the ear drum. All is good. He said that the healing is perfect, the surgery is a "Home run" and that I need to keep with drops 2 a night till Saturday.

I can get water in the ear, and that even though I still have head ringing that should go away in the next 3-4 weeks he has ASSURED ME this will happen. He said the healing and skin are growing properly and I can hear out of the ear now but it is still tender on the cartilage top area of the ear. (he fliped back the top of the cartilage to do the surgery then cut all the way around behind the ear)

Thank you all for your prayers!

We continue to pray that this healing process continues and I am totally cured in the next 3-4 weeks and can sleep without taking a pill. Cleared to do all workouts. Yay!

Now on to workouts.

This morning we had birthdays at the office so I had to fix my huge fruit tray, and did not workout yet. The plan yoga after work, or upper body at home not sure yet.

Yesterday RAWKED!

(except that I got a pecan blizzard at DQ after dinner since I had such a rough day. I know like a kid, but I still did it since I love pecan pie and those darn commercials have been killing me)

I had a productive weekend, and I feel good about that. I blasted some fat this weekend with my gym workouts.

Diet not so good, had some new lemon ice cream called 5. Five ingredients and very tasty I only had a half cup but still. For some reason this weekend I had a sweet tooth more then usual and we ate out 2 times.

Weekend Workouts Sweet Potato Concoction

The stair BEAST! Ever try this machine?

I had an ice cream with brownies in it this weekend, I will admit. (which I don't like so won't be mixing my brownies and ice cream again)

Worked out really hard this weekend, and feelin' it SORE!

I even did the MONSTER manual stair climber for 5 minutes (usally I do this for 20 minutes if I do NO other cardio). I know your thinking that's not much, huh? But after 15 minutes on the elliptical at a calorie burn of 1 calorie per minute it was tough! I burned 2 cals per minute on that stair MONSTER puppy.....sheesh.

Plus on a down side, I did have to drop down on the asst pullups machine by 10lbs but you know I am ok with that.

Last week I really kept my fat macro in line and hope to do the same this week, just tweeking some things while trying to stay on a budget.

On a food note, (I did not load the pictures yet) I am trying a new thing with my sweet potato........

What do you think?

Lunch today:
1 med sweet potato
2 tbs honey
1/2 oz sunflower seeds

D-lish sweet and salty......and for dessert yogurt with cinnamon.

Today's workout:

My Prone Pike Video Workout

I took a challenge by another trainer and did my prone pike workout video. He said my "single prone pike" was just not enough taunting me. "Enough" I told him...I was going for form, I said form beats quantity EVERY time.

So take note, any time that you feel your compromising your form on a movement either drop the weight or go lighter. Its not worth the injury, you know that recovery time is way to long.

Here is the link:

Before you think I am a wimp, I normally can do about 10-12 of these but I did this after shooting my other step video as a last minute "A-ha moment".

You know when you remember what you forgot?

I can't go down with someone thinking I am a wimp can I? Where is the girl power in that? Please don't get me started. So basically my weekend was filled with trying to film, and crop videos (and pictures) and get all my paper work filed for last quarter, CHECK! All done.

Now I am done with part one of two. 1. File 2. Shred old stuff so that's this weekends plan, along with some much needed house work because I finally bought some Swifers at lunch today NO more excuses Ms T. Clean to the rescue.

I got all my thank you notes sent out, and grad cards done so all that is left is to do my net worth updates and photos for my site.
Yep, I had a productive weekend I even hit the gym and blasted away 350 cals.
300 Cals elliptical

50 Cals manual stair climber

2x20 Standing ab reverse crunch machine

If you want to see all my videos you can just click here:

Tonight, I teach step circuit and will try to work off that cake I had at the youth spaghetti dinner at church Friday night.

Do I Have Bragging Rights?

(this is NOT me, it is an Istock photo I cropped)

I'm thrilled! I met a goal, I am doing the HAPPY dance!

On Sunday I decided to conquer that manual step machine and boy was it haaaaaaaard!

So far I have only lasted 10 minutes on this puppy, so on Sunday I decide to have some carbs before my workout, shorten my HIIT on the elliptical and go for it!

Here is what I did:
Ate 1 cup honey nut cheerios with 1/2 cup almond milk. Waited 20 minutes went to the gym and got on the elliptical. 15 minutes total, level 12 resistance 4 for 8 minutes then on level 15 resistance 4 for 7 minutes alternating sprints.

Getting warmed up.........

Then.......I walked over to the "BAD BOY" manual stair climber knowing I had not exerted all my energy to be able to do this full workout. 20 minutes is the MAX on this machine, cause I guess anymore and you would be D-E-A-D! (or I would be, as I said before that's WHY ITS IN THE BACK OF THE CARDIO)

I decided I would get bored from this struggle, even with great music (its that hard) so after 10 minutes I started mixing it up. Yeah I know, I can look a bit odd doing what I do on machines, but I don't really care what others think this is MY WORKOUT!

I took 3 minute intervals and did cross over steps, one leg to the right over the left and then left leg over the right as far as I could go so each step was a cross over. LOVED IT. Then I would do 2 minutes regular steps.

Next I did wide steps, SUMO steps or squat steps. I went as wide as the step to the right with the right leg, then to the left with the left leg, going from side to side. KILLER. (Yup, I really looked wierd doing this lol.....)

The last few minutes of the workout I did knee lifts to my chest, crunching in my abs then placing my foot on the step. Sorta like big high steep steps. Again LOVED IT! All said in done, I mastered this machine and am darn proud to "toot my own horn" about it.

Of course with sweat dripping off me, I was more then happy to walk away with an ear to ear grin to check this goal off my list as COMPLETED!

Bragging rights huh?

Today's workout:
Off day
Teaching 30 minute class tonight - not sure what yet

Workout minutes for the week came in at 425 calorie burn at 2411. I never track that but in BIG red letters it said "You've gone over your weekly calories burned goal by a significant amount" I must have really hit it hard this week?

I don't really go by that because on my ST I just list what I do there so I suppose I am NOT getting ALL the spark points for fitness minutes I could be getting, huh?

Anyway, here are my workouts for the weekend and I think I deserve to brag do you? I have 2 more weeks to go then its all about the swimsuit!

Sundays workout:
At the Gym

Time of workout = 45 mins
Cals burned = 450

2x20 reverse standing ab machine
2x10 hyper extensions
20 lat switch grip cable pull downs 45lb
2 x 10 cable rows 55lb - free standing

If Rocky Can Do It... So Can I

I'm having a love hate relationship with the manual stair climber at the gym. I know, its not as bad as Tony Horton but its very "Rocky Balboa" in action.

No joke!

I am GOING TO BEAT THIS MACHINE AND DO THE FULL 20 MINUTES. Sweat, sweat, sweat, or DIE! (I have only made it 10 mins each workout so far)

I did 63 floors its tough, that's 10 minutes and 100 calories of pure sweat! Or I could say torcher. (it is torcher) That's why its in the BACK of the cardio section, where you can just pass out and no one will notice your DEAD!

Just kidding....but really if you have not tried this, or ever done manual stair climbing I recommend adding it to your workouts = bootaylishous!
T. needs this, vacation is coming faster and faster and I am so not ready.

How to get ready for a fabulous body. I can tell you all you want to know its a matter of doing it that counts. Resist temptation like the DEVIL.

(Ok sadly I let the devil in, had 1 chocolate martini and 2 bites of a brownie on girls night out Saturday)

FABULOUS BODY=

1. Get up, move, workout... do it no matter what, even when it sucks to do so

2. No excuses...you must eat the right foods - hence NO chocolate martins T. (which really made me woozy since I don't drink anymore)

3. Peer pressure be gone! They had like 4 drinks, don't fall to temptation of EMPTY calories have water. (ok unless you consider a chocolate martini instead of dessert) NO still bad T!

4. Get protein and plenty...I had fish, and green beans (Orange roughy plain and salad with dressing on the side)

5. Eat slow...its true this is BIG on saving calories

6. Hydrate with water...lots of it, who cares that I had to get up and go pee 3 times during dinner that's just extra walking. (and people watching too)

7. Want it. If you want it you can get it, PERIOD! There is no secret to that.

Saturday I tried Rachel's oat eggs, with honey, and love them! If anyone wants to know about here is the link.
www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3093128

Don't Hate Your Trainer

www.sparkpeople.com/mypage.asp?id=KAREN7360
My Trainer Karen Finch is 56 years old & HAWT!

I'm not hating my trainer, its just like getting a spanking you don't like it but you probably need it right? You know when you have been bad or done wrong and MUST pay. (Do you think she got this body eating junk, NOT!)

Done wrong = FAT!!!

It has been proven you get 30% better results working with a trainer, even all the greats have trainers.

I have been blasting the workouts but have not had as "clean of a diet" as I need to have right now, so its back to the drawing board. My trainer said I have got to lower my calories to reach the goal, and just when I was loving my salads.

Why?

I have been putting sunflower seeds, or walnuts, raisins, apples or strawberries, and all that is going to have to change to more protein less carbs. It's not that I won't be able to have wonderful salads, I just have to change what I am putting in them. (Sniff, sniff).

No more banana smoothies.....they have to go too! (Sniff, sniff).

2 bad things for me, bananas and corn. Well for now anyway they are just too high on the carb list for this carbaholic. Sad, just sad but the sacrifice will be so worth it.

When I get to prance around in my swimsuit on the beach, all the sacrifice which really is not a sacrifice its just looking at food different will be the pay off.

Eat clean = NO FAT!!!

Now just in case your wondering, I have done really well with sugar. The only sweet thing I have had besides fruit has been toffee peanuts, and guess what?

THEY GOT TO GO! (Sniff, sniff)

So I got my spanking and I am back on my feet ready to go to work again on my new eating plan.

Here are my workouts, and I am really challenging myself with the manual stair machine. If I get past 40 floors and 10 minutes next week....I will be MORE then thrilled!!!

5 Ways To Beat A Fitness Crossroad

As we enter a new month, its a chance for change. I see crossroads ahead (just 6 days to go on P90X) and I need to decide which way to go. So many times you hit a crossroad and you may be scared to make the wrong choice but make the choice, and move forward. Life will not wait for you to decide, time will keep ticking and doing SOMETHING is better then doing NOTHING.

You may need to change your workout, or some relationships that are not useful or toxic or even your work that you do. But be assured, you are going to make it, your going to be ok because its all and always UP TO YOU.

What are some ways to help you with crossroads in fitness, how do you make the most of it when everyone is pulling at you, or maybe not supportive...like a spouse or a good friend?

Take control, own up to yourself and make changes because its ultimately up to YOU. No matter who you talk to, work with, what gym workout your doing.....its up to you, just YOU to make it happen or not.

Here are 5 ways to beat a fitness crossroad:

1. Do the most productive, what produces.
You might think hours at the gym will get you a great body, but it won't unless you incorporate motivation, concentration and a good plan of strength training and cardio.
Doing 8-10 rep with heavy weights that the last 2-3 are challenging, will reap you better results then 12-15 that is too light. Don't be afraid to add weight.

2. Make cardio work.
Don't do an hour on the treadmill unless your training for a marathon. Sometimes longer is just a waste of time. I'm not saying that if your just getting started into fitness this is a waste of time, but you have to make your body work or it won't produce. You will do better off doing sprints, with intervals of a few minutes. Bringing the heart rate up and down will do you more good then keeping at a steady heart rate. The goal, keeping it higher more often, then lower during your workout.
Doing high intensity training will get you better results in less time.
Changing inclines will get you better results.
Walking 2 min high incline switching to running 5 min flat will have your body working harder. (as an incline surface burns 30% more calories then a flat surface). Intervals switching from 2-5 minutes are a great way to get your cardio to produce results in just 30 minutes, not an hour.

3. Don't walk around without a plan of action.
This is the biggest time waster, really it is. Go in with a plan, and work the plan. How many people do I see just going from machine to machine, this is a WRONG plan. (I am not talking about Curves here)
Strength training upper body or lower body, followed by 20 minutes of high intense cardio for example.

4. Always use free weights when possible.
Using machines are too "comfy" for the body on the range of motion, make the body work by having to balance and keep form by using dumbbells. If you can add in Bosu or a stability ball even better, all these movements force more action from your muscles and produce results faster.

5. Clear the mind and the attitude.
Working out take concentration, and focusing on the movements the muscles are making as it is happening will get better results then just "going through the motion". I have seen people do this so much its scary! Do what you need to and focus on your body, look at the muscle that is being worked and keep your form as perfect as possible. Don't be afraid of the mirror.

Here is my workout today, and over the weekend was 1 hour power yoga and lots of walking.

7 miles down, 19.5 to go

This weekend I had a Rockstar workout weekend, now if only I could say the same about the Cookie monster! *sigh*

Saturday I was productive and thought I would start my marathon training start point. You may remember my goal was to run till I can't run anymore and then start working from there. I am training on an elliptical because it is easier on my knees instead of the treadmill. When the weather breaks I will move my training outdoors.

I ended up with a steady 12 minute mile on the elliptical for 7 miles. I did not feel tired or sore at all and I was still keeping a 1 minute calorie burn or close to it. The machine only does an hour so I cant tell you the calculations, but I did the 7 miles and then finished with 45 minutes of yoga.

Figuring I would be very sore on Sunday, surprise not too bad. Considering my workout was back and legs I was a bit concerned for 2 reasons.

1. Its been quite a while since I ran that kind of distance/amount of cardio in one session. (1 hr 15 mins straight)

2. Holding poses in yoga (45 mins) also put lots of pressure on my legs, and would I have enough recovery time for my back and leg workout the next day

What I was going to do was another cardio session on Sunday morning and then my workout, but figured I would not push it and would do the cardio later in the day. That did not happen, as domestic duties got in the way, plus cooking, filming and writing.

So I am grateful today I am teaching cardio mix and will get my cardio in and have extra time for recovery. I now know that when I do get to hit the pavement I believe I will be able to start with and easy 10 to 15 mile but will start to struggle I believe around the 20 mile marker. My pace will be at about 13 mile minute by my calculations.

I have NOT committed to any run at this point, but should I decide to do one it will be in the fall or next spring.

4 Minute Fat Blaster Workout

This weekend was a very productive weekend and I feel good about that.
I got my video up, 4 minute fat blaster set to Zumba music www.youtube.com/trainertfitness

Why do I feel so productive?
All my holiday shopping is doneAll holiday gifts wrapped
All paper work for year end organized
Christmas cards bought
Stamps boughtReady for Santa ;-)

Some how I feel like its all coming together, you have to love that feeling don't you?

Went to the gym on Sunday and blasted out a good workout, over 300 cals kicked to the curb! Saw 2 of the regular peeps and they missed me and said I looked amazing that made my day. I am stuck on day 42 of P90X, lets hope this week I get that done or thats the plan.

Then it was church and fellowship followed by food and decorating of the church.

I love to decorate!

I took 2 of the front Ficus trees and turned them into Poinsettia trees and added lights and ivy too. They were very lovely, and it took me about 1 hour to complete. Mostly because of the fact I needed green wired lights and they had to get them from the kids church (where I teach my Monday night fitness classes) After that it was off to the cemetery to decorate my dads grave. This year I choose red poinsettias and variegated ivy, last year I did blue and sliver he loves blue.
